"My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness."
-Maya Angelou
At The Country School, we aim to teach kindness every day, but with Valentine's Day this week, we delved into some deeper conversations about kindness and how we can be good friends to one another, even when it's hard to do so. We talked about how it feels when a friend is not kind and what to do about it. This class has become very close, and with that sometimes comes favorites. We've been talking about how it feels to be left out of play and what fun it can be to have so many friends to play with! It's been a great week of social-emotional growth.
Our art table was the landing place for paints, glues, hearts, doilies, pens and brushes this week, with lots of red and pink for goodies to go home and to display! Our Blue Room kiddos are continuing to strengthen their fine motor skills, visual perception and imaginations, as they help to decorate our classroom with works of the season.
Our students enjoyed felt board play, magnet tiles and cars, and lots of dramatic play! Learning to take turns, navigating disagreements, problem-solving and coming to a compromise are happening more and more smoothly. These are just a few of the many skills these children are reinforcing each day. And they're having a great time while they're learning!
The parallel bars are quite popular these days, with kids who can't cross them yet, watching those who can, and those who can, teaching others! It's wonderful to hear growth mindsets at work as some kiddos declare, "I can't do that...yet" as they try and try again.
In music class this week, we continued to enjoy Mr. Brian's songs and movement as we began to practice for our spring performance :)
For Valentine's week and Black History month, we chose literature that focused on inclusion and kindness.
Thank you for reading. Have a wonderful weekend!
