"The earth laughs in flowers."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
This week we eased back into familiar routines and rejoined our friends in all our favorite activities. We talked about the season of Spring and began with the parts of a flower.
It's hard to go wrong with spring and flowers. This week we sponge printed giant tulips, pieced together our own roots, stems and petalled flowers, and created a large group mural together. You could almost smell the roses!
Our centers were a buzz with puzzle-making, floral arranging and drawings, neighborhood car rides, a new garden toy, and deep investigative work with our magnifying glasses. We had some fresh yellow play-doh to delight the senses, enjoying both collaboration and independent play.
We definitely missed one another over the break. Games were quickly organized, hugs were handed out like candy, and our legs took us as far as we could go; climbing, running and pedaling around the yard.
This week Mr. Brian got us back to movin' and groovin' practicing for our Spring Sing in a few weeks.
Books we read this week!
We are always building an environment of goodwill and empathy in our classrooms. This week, we focused on noticing when a friend needs a helping hand, and we practiced putting that feeling into an action. We worked together in teams of two to carry an object from point A to point B (see photos below). In these activities, we're learning to notice what is needed to work together and nurturing feelings of connection and support.
