THIS WEEK AT TCS- The ALL-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER for important dates and events.
GREETINGS FROM THE YELLOW ROOM TK CLASS! THIS WEEK, THE DRAGONFLIES TOOK FLIGHT AS THEY PERFORMED THEIR JOBS! THE LETTER OF THE WEEK WAS "D" AND FRIENDS PRACTICED FORMING THE LETTER IN A VARIETY OF CREATIVE WAYS!
THE YELLOW ROOMERS ALSO LEARNED ABOUT FAMILIES AS WE HAD A LIVELY DISCUSSION ABOUT A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT FAMILY STRUCTURES. CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN AN ART PROJECT THAT REFLECTED THEIR OWN FAMILIES AND INCORPORATED THEIR COUNTING SKILLS AS WELL!
WE ALSO CELEBRATED SRIA AS OUR FIRST FRIEND OF THE WEEK!
LETTER OF THE WEEK
THE YELLOW ROOMERS EMBRACED THE LETTER "D" THIS WEEK AS THEY PRACTICED WRITING IT IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.
IN ADDITION TO PRACTICING TRACING THE LETTER AND WRITING IT ON THE WHITEBOARD, THEY FORMED A "D" WHILE PRESSING PINTO BEANS INTO PLAY DOUGH.
FRIENDS ALSO CREATED A "D" DOG BY GLUING DIFFERENT FONTS AND PATTERNS OF THE LETTER D ONTO THE DOG'S BODY. OUR "D" DOG IS PROUDLY DISPLAYED IN OUR CLASSROOM!
THE FOUR PILLARS OF WELL-BEING-
PRACTICING MINDFULNESS-SPREADING KINDNESS
THIS WEEK, WE CONTINUED TO EXPLORE THE MINDFULNESS PILLAR. WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF MAINTAINING A MINDFUL POSTURE WHILE FOCUSING ON OUR DEEP BREATHING. THIS MINDFUL ACTION ENHANCES THE CHILDREN'S AWARENESS OF THEIR BREATH, THEIR BODIES, AND STRENGTHENS THEIR INNER VOICES.
WE ALSO WATCHED AN INSTRUCTIONAL, ANIMATED VIDEO WHICH DEMONSTRATED THIS MINDFULNESS METHOD THROUGH SONG.
IN ADDITION, WE EXPLORED KINDNESS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO MINDFULNESS. THE YELLOW ROOMERS PARTICIPATED IN AN ACTIVITY IN WHICH EVERYONE WAS GIVEN A PIECE OF PAPER WITH A HEART AND THEIR NAME PRINTED ON IT.
AFTER TRADING THEIR PAPER WITH THEIR NEIGHBOR'S, EACH CHILD WAS ASKED TO SAY AN UNKIND THING TO ONE ANOTHER. EACH TIME UNKIND WORDS WERE SAID,THE PAPER WAS CRUMPLED UNTIL IT ENDED UP IN A CRUMPLED BALL. THIS ACTIVITY WAS UNCOMFORTABLE FOR SOME OF THE CHILDREN AS THEY FOUND IT VERY HARD TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO A FRIEND.
AFTERWARD, EACH CHILD SAID KIND WORDS TO THEIR FRIEND WHICH LED TO SMOOTHING OUT THE WRINKLES OF THE CRUMPLED PAPER BALL. HOWEVER, THE PRESENCE OF THE WRINKLES REMAINED EVIDENT. ULTIMATELY, THIS LESSON TAUGHT ALL THE YELLOW ROOMERS THAT UNKIND WORDS LEAVE DEEP MARKS AND THAT WE NEED TO PRACTICE USING KIND WORDS TO MAINTAIN HAPPY AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
P.E WITH COACH JEREMY
P.E CONTINUES TO BE A FAVORITE CLASS IN THE YELLOW ROOM! AND THIS WEEK DID NOT DISAPPOINT! COACH JEREMY TAUGHT THE CHILDREN A FUN, NEW GAME CALLED "OCTOPUS TAG", INVOLVING HULA HOOPS AND POOL NOODLES (WHICH REPRESENTED TENTACLES.) OUR FRIENDS CONTINUE TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AS THEY PRACTICE FOLLOWING MULTI-DIRECTIONAL PROMPTS WHICH TEST THEIR COORDINATION, BALANCE, ENDURANCE, AND LISTENING SKILLS!
OUTDOOR PLAY
MUSIC CLASS
SINGING, DANCING, AND A WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!
WE DISCUSSED ALL THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FAMILIES AFTER READING "THE FAMILY BOOK" BY TODD PARR.
IN ADDITION, WE DID A MATH ACTIVITY CALLED "HOW MANY FEET IN YOUR FAMILY?" EACH YELLOW ROOMER SELECTED A TEMPLATE OF FEET THAT MATCHED EACH MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY...SOME INCLUDED THEIR PETS! THEY COUNTED THE NUMBER OF FEET THAT THEY GLUED ONTO A PIECE OF PAPER. FINALLY, THEY CHOSE THE PREPRINTED NUMBER CORRESPONDING TO THE NUMBER OF FEET THEY HAD COUNTED AND COLORED THE FEET THEIR CHOICE OF SKIN COLOR.
AUTUMN LEAF PROCESS ART
THE YELLOW ROOMERS CREATED FESTIVE AUTUMN PROCESS ART USING THE FALL COLORS OF RED, GOLD, YELLOW, AND ORANGE.
PATTERNING WITH FALL LEAVES
IN HONOR OF THE NEW SEASON, THE YELLOW ROOMERS DEMONSTRATED THEIR MATHEMATICAL ABILITY AT PATTERNING, USING PREPRINTED FALL LEAVES!
GUEST LIBRARY READER
MARGOT'S MOMMY, TERRA, WAS OUR LIBRARY GUEST READER THIS WEEK! SHE READ SOME OF MARGOT'S SPECIALLY CURATED BOOKS! ONE OF THEM WAS ACTUALLY A CUSTOM MADE STORY FOR HER SISTER SCARLETT! THANKS TERRA!
PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO SIGN UP TO BE A LIBRARY READER FOR THE YELLOW ROOMERS!
FRIEND OF THE WEEK- SRIA
IN THE YELLOW ROOM TK, WE BELIEVE EVERYONE IS SPECIAL!! THE FRIEND OF THE WEEK IS A UNIQUE ACTIVITY WHICH PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EACH CHILD TO SHOWCASE THEMSELVES, THEIR CULTURE, FAMILY TRADITIONS, AS WELL AS THEIR HOBBIES AND PASSIONS! THIS WEEK, SRIA KICKED OFF THE FRIEND OF THE WEEK FESTIVITIES! SHE PROUDLY DISPLAYED AND PRESENTED HER AMAZING BOARD FILLED WITH FAMILY PHOTOS, EXCITING VACATION ADVENTURES SHE EXPERIENCED WITH HER FAMILY, DECORATIVE STICKERS, DRAWINGS, AND HER ADORABLE BABY PHOTOS!
ANOTHER COMPONENT OF THE "FRIEND OF THE WEEK" ACTIVITY INVOLVES CREATING A KEEPSAKE BOOK FOR THE FRIEND. FELLOW STUDENTS CREATE ARTWORK BASED ON THE PHOTOS DISPLAYED ON THEIR FRIEND'S POSTER. THE CHILDREN CREATED DESCRIPTIVE ART HIGHLIGHTING WHAT THEY LIKED ABOUT SRIA'S PHOTOS AND CREATED DRAWINGS WHICH EXPRESSED THEIR LOVE FOR HER. IN ADDITION, THE CHILDREN COLLABORATED ON A GROUP LETTER, A LANGUAGE ARTS ACTIVITY, IN WHICH THEY SHARED THEIR THOUGHTS AND LOVE FOR SRIA!
