This week in the Blue Room we started talking about fall. Autumn brings cool nights and falling leaves. We learned that not all trees lose their leaves; some keep them year round. The deciduous trees around campus will be resting through winter, and will produce leaves again in the spring. We mixed red and yellow paint to get orange, as we painted with fall colors.
Music class this week re-enforced our mindfulness of movement as the children kept a slow or fast beat with teacher Lauren using rhythm sticks. Next we marched to the song, "We Are the Dinosaurs," where we stomped and played tambourines until it was time for the dinosaurs to stop and eat, or rest.
We enjoy visiting the library where we listen to stories and look at books. The children really enjoy picking out their own books to look at and share with friends.
We had so much fun hopping through hoops last month that we decided to do it again! We love visiting the meadow where we have a large grassy area to run and play.
We paid attention to our movements this week, where we focused on moving fast or very slowly. Next we were magically turned into different animals, ones that could hop, fly, crawl or slither*. Being aware of our bodies will help us to relax and loosen our muscles when we do a progressive relaxation during our afternoon meditation.
*We also listened to a Hap Palmer song where a little boy named Sammy walks to the store in creative ways. He hops, swims, crawls and flies, before deciding that he likes walking best of all.
We took a walk to the pond, where we searched for leaves on the ground to add to our little cardboard trees. The children love looking for leaves, seed pods, pinecones and other nature items.
The trees may not be ready to drop all their leaves, but we practiced raking leaves into piles inside the classroom, so we'll be ready when they do!
Looking forward to more fun and learning,
Renée & Kate
