Quote of the Week
"Ms. Kate, can you be a monster who tries to eat our car?"
-Biba
Fall is a time to pause and notice the changing leaves and autumn breeze, and appreciate the cooler temperatures and rain coming our way.
Who knew milk, dish soap and food coloring to be so much fun! This week we chose colors to experiment with and watched what happens when milk and dish soap collide!
This week we continued with our theme of fall leaves and changing weather with giant paper leaves and umbrella/raindrop relief paintings with sponges. It was so much fun to see their faces light up when the umbrellas and raindrops were removed, revealing their white shapes underneath!
Our Blue Room kiddos are finding their groove. They're really enjoying one another and are always excited to see what the teachers have in store for them each day! They're building towers that stand and fall and train tracks that went to magical lands. They're taking care of babies when they need to go to the doctor and getting messy with paint. They're running an office, taking messages on the phone and serving up lemon soup at their restaurant. They're very busy, and it's fun to see them blossom!
We really got into obstacle courses this week, hopping and jumping, and these kids loved it! Obstacle courses challenge a child's comfort zone and boost confidence, coordination and balance.
Ruby Bridges was the first African-American child to attend a formerly all-white school in Lousiana in the 1960's. And Ruby was only 6 years-old! Her braverly is something we talked about in our class, which led to a group discussion about what makes us brave. Then we each decorated a Ruby Bridges poster and took a photo together.
This week we celebrated Della's birthday with fantastic cake pops and a beautiful version of the birthday song!
Here are some of the themed books we read this week!
This week we talked about our breath. We practiced breathing together as different animals. We made a shark fin at the tops of our heads and brought the fin down to our chest with our breath. Then we breathed like bears and ended our breath while hugging ourselves tightly.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend,
Kate & Renée
