FRIDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2025
A deluge, a downpour, a denouement of cats and dogs dancing down from cloudburst, drizzle to precipitational beat down. It rained on Tuesday. Friday was sunny. This has been the weather with Ryan. Now, the news.

This week: Completed chapters 1-4 of "Fablehaven"; grammar work; began pre-writing stage for fantasy stories.
Looks like we're finally peeking through the initial setup stages of the story. What else will Seth find in the woods? What is Grandpa Sorenson hiding? Is that old woman a witch? What will Kendra's keys unlock? Who/what is Lena? What about the milk?! Exciting things to come for sure in "Fablehaven".
Students are becoming further accustomed to the work expected of them in regards to a 5th grade novel study. Chapters 1-4, if not already completed, are due as homework on Monday.
Next week: Chapters 5-8 "Fablehaven"; continue fantasy story writing.
This week: Finished powers of ten + estimation, took a quiz on both.
We're moving along nicely in math! After completing a quiz (or beginning a new unit of study), Mr. Todd and I decided that a little diversion into some fun Friday activities was in order. Did these activities involve number sense routines, geometry review, and the furtherance of the students' mathematical knowledge in general? Yes, yes they did; 'twas math class after all.
Next week: Whole number computation -- focus on 3x1, 3x2 multiplication, building into division with double digit divisors.
We've begun our Community Pillar this week! We discussed what community means to us, and what communities we feel belonging toward.
Speaking of community, the 5th graders presented some of their newfound Spanish knowledge to the whole school at Friday 15 - way to go!
Congratulations to the 5th grade girl's basketball team! What a win! Well fought and well earned.
We participated in the Great American Shake Out, a national day dedicated to earthquake preparedness. The students rose to the occasion by descending to the ground in a perfectly executed duck and cover drill.
