FRIDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2025
Meetings being the sweet and partings being the bitter, how the tart lime juice mixes with the honeyed syrup of our conferences come and gone. Bittersweet partings as such sweet sorrow and all that. In other words, thank you so much for finding the time in your busy schedules to attend parent-teacher conferences this week! I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with y'all, discussing your amazing student's progress, and getting to know each other better as a whole. You're awesome!
Reminders/Upcoming events:
13 October - Pupil free day in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day
14 October - Picture day (5th grade is scheduled for 9 - 9:10am)
17 October - Diwali celebration at Friday 15
It was the heat of
autumn gone, returned again
amidst scattered leaves.
This week: Began "Fablehaven" novel study.
First novel study of the year underway! Students are becoming accustomed to answering chapter questions as well as defining vocabulary.
5th grade also served as jury for 4th grade's mock trial. Teacher Max was accused of stealing the DVD of "Holes" from Jaleesa's classroom. Did he do it? Was he the movie thief? By a narrow margin of 7-6, 5th grade found teacher Max guilty of thievery! Sentencing to follow at a later date.
Next week: Continue "Fablehaven", fantasy writing, and grammar work.
This week: Finished order of operations; powers of ten; estimation.
Exponents, powers of ten, hopping decimals, oh my! Then we celebrated Friday by participating in a whole group jeopardy plus a number sense activity.
Next week: Continue powers of ten; whole number computation.
In practicing how to make conversation with each other, a discussion arose wherein we realized that our class had divided itself along birth order lines. Remember, the students chose their seats on the first day of school, without discussion regarding their age relative to their siblings. It's so fascinating how we subconsciously gravitate to others based upon interests and affinities.
Also, in true older vs younger sibling fashion, the older siblings tended to know the birth dates of their siblings, while the younger siblings struggled a bit to remember their siblings' birthdays.
On a side note, younger siblings unite!
Congratulations to Alice and Grady, our 5th grade class representatives!
Thank you to everyone who participated in running for student council. We enjoyed your campaign posters and speeches!
Also, Friday brought the return of gaga ball! 'Twas fun, chaotic, but fun.
