FRIDAY, 06 February 2026
Thank you for all of your help in the Recipe for Homework assignment! I loved looking through the photos of the students preparing a meal/snack/etc. The ability to provide sustenance for oneself is a true life skill, and one that can be enjoyable!
Important dates + Reminders:
NO SCHOOL, President's Day -- 16 February 2026
A note from Matt:
"TCS University Is Back!
We’re excited to share that TCS University returns this winter. This beloved program invites parents, guardians, grandparents, and community members to teach a one-hour class based on a passion, hobby, or career they love. Classes run on Fridays, February 20, February 27, and March 6 at 2:00 p.m., and a TCS teacher is always present to support. If you’re interested in participating or would like to learn more, please email [Matt] directly. We’d love to have you be part of this special community experience."
This week ELA: Completed media literacy mini unit.
We finished exploring how advertisers gear commercials/ads to their target audiences, how they phrase words, manipulate images, and utilize celebrities to convince consumers to buy their products. This culminated in watching a couple famous Super Bowl ads on Friday to get us ready for Sunday's big game!
Next week ELA: Persuasive writing.
This week Math: Adding fractions.
In addition to diving further into the fraction unit, 5th graders encountered a word problem or two on Friday that had them effectively doing algebra! They received a crash course on coefficients, comparing like to like terms, and calculating collections of items at the very end versus as they go along. Well done, y'all!
Next week Math: Continue adding fractions.
Some added community time: a joint science lesson with 4th grade regarding how to determine which season was being depicted in a photograph. They learned how the details in the image plus the time stamp can help figure out what time of year it was in the photo. Plus, a guest appearance by Ryan's son, Leo!
Recess! We joined with 2nd grade on Friday as Preschool - 1st grade were at home in preparation for Night School.
