FRIDAY, 03 OCTOBER 2025
It feels more like Fall, what with the weather and all. I swear I caught the wonderful smell of dying leaves on the breeze round mid-week. But more importantly, it is plain to see, that we should be quite celebratory of our students (as a whole, indubitably), though this week particularly of six especially. For they have been as the oak resplendent in autumnal plumage, displaying of their true colors before their arboreal peers, our whole school forest. Huzzah, huzzah, huzzahs all around!
In other, words, great job students! And many, many kudos and all the praise to Alice, Grady, Harlow, Izzy, Penelope, and Samira for their tremendous speeches at Friday 15! We'll discover the results of Friday's voting on Monday (everyone loves a cliff-hanger, right?).
Quick notes:
Parent-Teacher conferences next week

Pupil Free day on Wednesday, 8 October 2025
No TILE sessions next week; they will resume the following week
This week: Completed Fiction unit + unit test; grammar work; fantasy writing
In Social Studies, we presented our civilizations. Everyone did a fantastic job! Their creativity and consideration was on full display as they presented their wonderful work to the class. This was the first of several presentations that the students will be conducting throughout the year. We love seeing them grow and gain confidence in their public speaking abilities!
Next week: Begin novel study, "Fablehaven"; continue fantasy writing; grammar work.
This week: Whole number operations; Order of operations + assessment.
In Science, Bill led the students through a lesson that had the students explore various biomes found throughout the world. From there, they chose four biomes to research and create a flip book for.
Next week: Powers of ten; whole number computation.
In addition to our mindfulness lessons, we played a quick game designed to promote classroom community. The game pictured is "cheerleader": your basic game of rock, paper, scissors with the addendum of the folks who lost now cheer on the person who beat them. Ultimately, this leads to two final players who have a whole cheer squad behind them exhorting them to victory. Hooray!
Big, big shout out to our six amazing 5th graders who ran for student council representative! Y'all did a stupendous job designing posters, writing speeches, and delivering those campaign promises in front of the whole school! Outstanding work, all of you.
