Science is crucial for providing learners with problem-solving skills and teaching them to embrace the quest for knowledge and understanding. Science is often broken down into the following three fields or branches: Physics, Biology, Chemistry. Modern definitions of science include social sciences along with the three natural sciences. This introduces a whole range of additional subjects, with some of the most notable examples including psychology, sociology, and economics.
Ⓣechnology Applied Skills In Real-World Situations
The study of technology is an opportunity to teach students how knowledge, tools, and skills in math and science can be applied to solve practical problems and extend human capabilities. People are surrounded and supported by technological systems. Effectively using and improving these systems is essential for long-term survival and prosperity. Technology and engineering subjects help students acquire valuable interdisciplinary and applied skills in real-world situations, and attract students who are not otherwise drawn to traditional math and science.
Ⓔngineering Systems Thinking, Creativity, Optimism, Collaboration, Communication, and Attention To Ethical Considerations
The study of the natural and designed world, designed systems, processes, materials and products and of the technologies and the scientific principles by which they function. Engineering practices involve mathematics, science, and technology, inherently integrating all four STEM disciplines.
Ⓐrt Historical and Cultural Context
Visually literate citizens understand the role and functions of art in history and culture. Artists influence and are influenced by the cultures and time periods in which they live. Creative skills and knowledge of the arts, such as design, writing and history, help STEM learners solve problems in more innovative ways. By integrating concepts and practices of the arts, STEAM uses tools such as data visualization or fine art imagery to deepen one’s understanding of science, math and technology. Art incorporates the study of the humanities, language arts, dance, drama, music, visual arts, design, new media, etc. Compare/contrast artworks from different historical time periods and/or cultures.
Ⓜath Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking
Simple computational simulations are created and used based on mathematical models of basic assumptions. Mathematics includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. Math in STEAM helps little ones learn about patterns, numbers, shapes, sorting rules, and measurements in hands-on and fun ways. Learning about math concepts starts as early as infancy. Often a child’s first word, regardless of language, is “more.”

Ⓢcience - A significant part of science as an academic subject is focused on research and ‘the scientific method’, which involves formulating a question, coming up with a hypothesis or a proposed explanation, making a prediction, testing the initial hypothesis, and then evaluating the results. This is important because it places a strong emphasis on the need to back up claims or assumptions with clear evidence. Moreover, it allows the subject to appeal to people with all kinds of different learning styles, including logical learners, natural learners, visual learners, and social learners.
Ⓢcience - Construct an explanation based on valid and reliable evidence obtained from a variety of sources (including students’ own investigations, models, theories,simulations, peer review) and the assumption that theories and laws that describe how the natural world operates today as it did in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
