Troubleshooting
Have you experienced a sudden loss of heat?
If your heat is provided by an air handler, often used in High Velocity systems, please check if you have hot water.
If you have no hot water as well as no heat, it is a water heater issue and the water heater rental company should be contacted.
These steps are done at your thermostat and ERV/HRV wall control:
Check / Change the batteries in your thermostat. If the thermostat is blank or black it may be due to no power, you could proceed to the mechanical room steps and then return to the first step once they are completed.
Make sure the thermostat is set to heat and the desired temperature is higher than the current indoor temperature. Your furnace is not designed or expected to maintain a temperature above 22°C or 71.5°F in living areas.
Check if the thermostat is set to ON or AUTO. Thermostat set to ON causes air to circulate continuously and air exiting heat runs will not always be warm.
Check that ERV/HRV is not set to MAX which may bring in more fresh air than desired, potentially making the area feel cooler
Have you replaced your Builder Supplied thermostat? If so, have the company that installed it return to ensure the thermostat was wired correctly and is not the cause of the loss of heat.
Have you had an air conditioner, humidifier, or other HVAC accessories installed by an individual or company other than Coulson Heating? If so, have the company that installed it return to confirm the new equipment is not the cause of the loss of heat.
This step is done outside, the vent pipes may be white or black and are a two inch or three inch tube extending from your brick or siding:
Check that all outside intake and exhaust pipes are clear of snow, ice, or other debris. There are four vents in total, two are for your furnace and two are for your water heater. If your furnace can't exhaust it will not run. (Bags/BBQ covers have blown onto the exhaust preventing them from being able to run)
Check that your gas meter does not have ice build up on the regulator and if you have propane, check that your tank is at least 25% full.
These Steps are done in your mechanical area or room:
Ensure the condensate lines are free and clear of debris and are able to flow straight without kinks directly to the floor drain. These lines run from a hard plastic black tube which is mounted on the outside of the furnace, it may be on either side, and the lines can hold water. If the water is not draining out of the line the furnace will not run. Lift the line to see if any water was caught and exits to the floor drain.
Check the furnace breaker on the electrical panel, make sure that it is on.
Turn OFF your furnace at the power switch, this looks like a light switch and is in the mechanical area. It controls the power to your furnace. This may or may not be labeled.
Once the power switch is off, remove the filter and replace with a new filter. Leave the power off for at least one minute to allow the furnace to reset. You should change your furnace filter monthly for highest efficiency and energy savings, a furnace should never run without a filter installed.
Turn the power switch back on.
Your Lennox furnace has a red light visible through the door which indicates it is receiving power. If this light has a continuous "heartbeat" blink, that is normal operation. If it is blinking in a sequence of numbers, please count the number of blinks for diagnostic purposes.
Please do not shut the gas supply to your furnace off during the summer months, it is not necessary.
The furnace does not have a pilot light and only uses gas when producing heat for your home.
Once all of these things have been verified, if there is still no air or cold air exiting your vents, call us at 705-424-5000
We perform warranty service work on furnaces and HRVs for two years after a new home closes, air conditioners and humidifiers have a one year warranty. Please have the name of your builder and your address when calling.
If you've had a recent power outage and have a Honeywell IAQ Thermostat that will not reconnect to wifi, try these steps.
