My research is in the area of ergodic theory, probability theory and dynamical systems with a focus on the statistical properties of chaotic dynamical systems. Over the last few years I have investigated the estimation of rare events using extreme value theory and other techniques. This work has culminated in a co-authored book ``Extremes and Recurrence in Dynamical Systems'' (275 pages) published by Wiley in 2016 and a book chapter ``Analysis and Simulation of Extremes and Rare Events in Complex Systems'', Advances in dynamics, optimization and computation, a volume dedicated to Michael Dellnitz on the occasion of his 60th birthday, 151-182. Studies in System, Decision and Control. Volume 304 (2020), Springer Festschrift.
I held permanent positions at UMIST (now University of Manchester) (1996-99) and the University of Surrey,(1999-2003) before moving to the University of Houston in 2004.
