The Visible Learning model translates John Hattie’s extensive research into a practical model of inquiry and evaluation. Exclusively provided by Corwin, Visible Learningplus(R) is an in-depth school-change model of professional learning and development designed to provide you with practical activities and take away tools. to evaluate their impact on student achievement and make evidence-based decisions to accelerate student learning.
This year’s theme is Making Learning Visible: The Power of Implementation. While Professor Hattie’s research provides insight that educators can use to inform practice, deep implementation of these practices is what makes Visible Learningplus(R) such a powerful force in improving learning for all students. The conference agenda will focus on how attendees can deeply implement the Visible Learning Plus principles and practices that research suggests has the most significant impact on student learning in their own context. Attendees will be able to accelerate their own Visible Learning journey by exploring the questions:
Mindframes: The Visible Learning mindframes underpin our every action and decision in a school; it is a belief that we are evaluators, change agents, adaptive learning experts, seekers of feedback about our impact, engaged in dialogue and challenge, and developers of trust with all, and that we see opportunity in error, and are keen to spread the message about the power, fun, and impact that we have on learning.
The Visible Learner: Visible Learners know the what, where, who, when and why of learning, and the how, when and why to use which learning strategies. They know what to do when they do not know what to do.
Know Thy Impact: Schools need to become incubators of programs, evaluators of impact and experts at interpreting the effects of teachers and teaching on all students. In short, we need to develop an evaluation climate in our education system.
Visible Teaching and Leading: The greatest influence on student progression in learning is having highly expert, inspired and passionate teachers and school leaders working together to maximize the effect of their teaching on all students in their care.
Effective Feedback: Leaders and teachers who understand the role of feedback in schools and classrooms and the power of providing teachers and students with information about where they are at, how they are doing, where they are going and how they are going to get there.
The Visible Learning School: Schools that have effective systems and processes in place to ensure knowledge and understanding about what impact is being made on student learning and achievement.
