What is a Borderdoodle?
The Borderdoodle, sometimes referred to as "Bordoodle", is a cross between the two of the most popular dogs in the world who also happen to be the two smartest dogs in the world, a purebred Poodle and a purebred Border Collie.
Are there different types of Borderdoodles?
There are many generations of doodles but typically there are two types that are most common. F1 and F1b.
An F1 borderdoodle is a 50% Poodle/50% Border Collie, where the parents are a purebred Poodle and a purebred Border Collie. F1 borderdoodles tend to shed little but depending on how the genes transfer to the pups, there can be a higher likelihood of a shedding dog. Our F1 Borderdoodle (Olive) happens to be a very low shedding F1 Borderdoodle
F1b borderdoodle is 50% F1 Borderdoodle/50% Poodle, or another way to think of it is that an F1b Borderdoodle is 75% Poodle and 25% Border Collie. F1b borderdoodle and other doodle breeds are extremely popular for those with allergies and an F1b will be far less likely to shed and far more likely to have a curlier coat compared to an F1.
Currently we are breeding F1b borderdoodles being more hypoallergenic and statistically far more likely to be non-shedding to minimal shedding. If allergies are a concern, an F1b is likely the best option for you.
feel free to contact us with any questions.
Will my Borderdoodle Shed?
An F1b is likely to shed very little to not at all, it really depends on the genetics which vary from one puppy to another even within the same litter. We currently are breeding F1b borderdoodles which are very likely to be non-shedding.
Keep in mind that all dogs shed, just as all humans shed. Some dogs shed more than others. Poodles in particular shed very little and on top of that do not have fur, but hair. This is why cross breeding with Poodles is very popular.
What size will my puppies be as adults?
The safe answer here is most likely your puppy will be some size between the size of the Mom and Dad. Olive, for example is 35 lb, and about 20 inches tall (to her shoulders). If she is bred with a dog that is 60 lbs, then the puppies will likely weigh between 35-60 lbs. We generally consider our borderdoodles to be Medium sized dogs.
