OBJECTIVE: Students will complete their standing picture frame.
Class was started 2nd Period with Ms. Jordan and Mr. Kirsch assisting students with finishing their picture frames. Students who got their frames done were then allowed to complete the Illustrator Level 1 assignments in the computer lab. Frames must be done today -- we will be presenting them next period.
During 4th Period, last week's order of operation worksheet was returned to students and discussed.
Following this, Mr. K demonstrated the use of the pen tool in Illustrator to make curves. There are three primary uses of the pen tool:
Simply clicking at each point with the mouse and releasing results in straight lines connecting all anchor points.
Clicking and dragging at each point allows you to create a curve using handles and tangent lines that can later be edited to modify the final shape.
Clicking, dragging, and then using the ALT key will allow one to break the tangent line so that you can have two different slopes (one going into, and one leaving the anchor point) so that you can have a sharp point on your shape.
To better master this tool, the pen tool game was played by each student. This game is intended to assist you in learning the use of the pen tool. YOU DO NOT NEED ILLUSTRATOR AT HOME TO DO THIS GAME -- it is accessed via a web browser.
Time permitting, students were asked to work on this Illustrator Level 2 Worksheet. Follow the instructions in the lesson. You will need to save this to your Google Drive, and open it within Illustrator to work on it.

OBJECTIVE: Students will start their own phone holder project.
OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to create scale drawings and written procedures for their shop projects.
For 2nd Period, students began by working on their journal. Today's journal was a bit different. In their journal, students selected and inserted a picture of the phone holder they wish to create. Then, students created a step-by-step Plan of Procedure (POP) they will use to build it. If the POP needs to change along the way, that is okay. Once checked, POP's were printed, and students started to make their phone holders.
Mr. K helped students find nice hardwoods with which to make their holders when out in the shop.
For 4th Period, students were asked to create a three-view, dimensioned drawing of the block that they actually made last period from the dimensioning worksheet. Actual dimensions were to be placed on this drawing. Rules and straight-edges should be used when creating this drawing. Proper dimensioning was discussed in class. Students are to use these guidelines when dimensioning drawings:
All dimensions should have a dimension line with arrows, and extension lines.
All dimensions should be arranged so that you can read them WITHOUT turning your paper.
Diameters and radii should be labelled using leaders.
Dimensions should be given to the nearest 16th of an inch. But all fractions should be expressed in their simplest form.
As soon as this multi-view, dimensioned, as-built drawing of your block was done, students were allowed to go back to the shop to continue work on their phone holders.

Students went down to the library to check out a book they wish to read. These books will stay in the classroom. From now on, when not working on a project and when getting done early, students are to read their book -- not play games or be on their phones.
For the next project, students will select their own design for a phone holder. Mr. K showed some online examples, and discussed which were doable .
For the rest of 2nd Period, students continued to work on their initial key chain / holder project.
At the start of 4th Period, students worked toward making a scale drawing of a block that Mr. K created in the shop. Students are to create a drawing having three views, and the drawing should be to scale and show all measurements to the point where someone else could make the block correctly WITHOUT needing to ask you any questions. This is in preparation for making a drawing of their next phone holder design.
