The focus of the college now credit for this class is centered on producing proper engineering drawings, created using appropriate engineering standards. To earn College Now credit in this course, you must demonstrate proficiency at CAD drafting. As you know this year we are using SolidWorks. Use of this program allows for more advanced modeling, is a design tool actually used in industry, allows us to machine parts on the school's CNC mills, and allows us to print parts on the school's 3D printers. Students wishing to earn four LBCC credits for EG 4.4.07: Introduction to AutoCAD, can complete a few additional assignments beyond the normal curriculum. These "extra" assignments will usually be the same as those completed by everyone else with the exception that the expectation for the adherence to drawing standards will be higher. Successful completion of these assignments, as well as passing a final proficiency test, will allow a student to earn these credits.
The requirements and all materials necessary to earn these credits will be posted here on this page and updated as the class continues. At times, a student's attendance at A/O or during lunch may be mandatory. Some A/O time and/or lunches may be dedicated to helping students as needed.
Drawing Standards (2/28/17). This document lists all of the drawing standards that must be used whenever producing a drawing using Solidworks. These standards will be explained during the 2/28 meeting during lunch. All CN assignments must meet ALL of these standards. It is suggested that any student pursuing CN credit try and comply with all of these standards for ALL the drawings you complete for this class for the duration of the year. Practice makes perfect!
CN Assignment 1: (2/28) Students are to resubmit the linkage drawing, meeting all drawing standards above for their drawings. (DUE 3/12)
CN Assignment 2: (2/28) Students are to complete three scaled drawings of non-trivial game pieces for the Game Project. Each drawing must comply with all of the drawing standards listed on the document linked above on this page, and must be completed on 17x11 paper. Mr. K will not look at your drawing prior to turning it in to determine if you are meeting all of the drawing standards. If students have a question about any of the standards, Mr. K will be happy to discuss specific standards with students ON A DIFFERENT, UNRELATED DRAWING. (DUE 4/2)
CN Assignment 3: Mars Lander Project Drawing #1 -- to be printed on 17x11 paper. This drawing must comply with all of the drawing standards listed on the document linked above on this page. Make sure your dimensions are placed appropriately. (DUE 6/13)
CN Assignment 4: Mars Lander Project Drawing #2 -- to be printed on 17x11 paper. This drawing must comply with all of the drawing standards listed on the document linked above on this page. Make sure your dimensions are placed appropriately. (DUE 6/13)
CN Final Proficiency Test (to be given on 6/13). Sometime between 6/6 and 6/13, students are to come in and look at the block of wood that they will prepare a drawing for during the final test. Students will be allowed to measure all dimensions for this block and write them down on their own paper. Students may even sketch (by hand) the three views of this block and fully dimension it ahead of time. However, students may not model this block in Solidworks prior to the test. On Wednesday, June 13th, students will be given the entire period (if needed) to model and produce a proper scaled drawing on 11 x 8.5 paper. The drawing produced must meet all of the Drawing Standards listed above. There will be no redo's for this test.
