Mill a First Simple Part (DUE: 11/01)
- For this assignment, you must:
  - Create this simple part in Solidworks: First CNC Part Drawing.
  - Follow these General Instructions for Using Mastercam -- Contour and Pocket Toolpaths to create a usable file to make your part. WHEN YOU GET FINISHED WITH STEP #13, STOP. YOU MUST GET AN INSTRUCTOR TO CHECK YOUR FILE TO LOWER THE RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ROUTERS.
  - Follow these Instructions for Using the Forest Scientific 4x2 and 4x8 CNC Routers and actually mill your part. The easiest way to secure your small 3"x3" block on the mill is to hot glue it to a larger board placed beneath with about one inch of hot glue along each edge. Do NOT put hot glue between the spoilboard and your 3"x3" block -- you will never get it a part.

Following this, students were shown the equipment to be used for the First Cuts Project: the bandsaws, the scroll saws, the drill presses (and drills), and the stationary sanders. Over the next two days, equipment will be demonstrated by an instructor, then students will be able to use that equipment, take the safety test for that piece of equipment, and complete test corrections as needed.

Next, options for the class were discussed as a group and explained as needed. DREAM is a class intended to be largely student-driven. That said, there are always limitations. One of the first things we will need to do this year is determine the general direction for the class.
While you think on this for a couple of days, we will meanwhile focus on shop safety so that we can quickly get to the point of being able to utilize the tools out in the shop.
General shop safety was discussed.
