SEPTEMBER 4, 2026
OBJECTIVE: Students will focus on the act of creating art and focus on the process and not the outcome.
For the next 30 minutes, your only job is to keep making marks. This is not about making something “good,” finished, or impressive. No erasing. No starting over. No judging. Think of this as visual thinking.
How it works:
Choose any materials: charcoal, pencil, pen, colored pencil, colored paper, or magazine clippings (or a mix).
Once you start, don’t stop until the time is up.
If you feel stuck, change something:
switch tools
change pressure or scale
rotate your paper
collage over what you already made
draw on top of, around, or through existing marks
Follow a line and see where it wants to go
Repeat a shape until it transforms
Respond to what’s already on the page instead of planning ahead
Cover something up, then bring it back
Let mistakes stay—they’re just information
If you catch yourself thinking “This looks bad,” that’s your signal to keep going. When time is up, stop exactly where you are. There is no right outcome, only evidence that you showed up and explored.
Trust!
SEPTEMBER 2, 2026
OBJECTIVE: Students will focus on the act of creating art and focus on the process and not the outcome.
On a piece of paper, answer the following questions:
What is your full name?
Do you have a preferred name?
What are your pronouns?
What is your definition of art?
What barriers do you face when creating art?
What kind of art or art (abstract, color theory, perspective...) are you interested in?
What media (pen, paint, printmaking, charcoal) would you like to learn to use?
We watched this video as a class.
