You will build on prior knowledge and skills to develop a higher level of mastery of 2D art & design materials, techniques, and concepts. The goal will be to create a comprehensive body of work. We will particularly focus on investigating a specific inquiry question and communicating your ideas with intention and originality. There is a high level of independence and dedication to complete a year-long AP art portfolio. Sam's Selected Works Checklist (google doc)
My entire life has been a journey to find home, one that isn’t spread between two cities. So what is home? Home to me is a feeling that fluctuates more so than a set place. The spaces portrayed in my sustained investigation represent particular memories during my journey of finding home.
My illustrative style was heavily influenced by the shows and stories that gave me that feeling. Images 1 - 3 represent my struggle to find one that fit my concept. After settling on a style, I started to insert myself as a character I associate memories with and really put detail into the background to emphasize the clarity of these locations in my mind. The bright colors weighing down images 5 - 9 & 15 placed in the sky or ceiling contrast the muted tones in the rest of the screen to represent that while these memories may be vivid in my mind, they don’t always represent comfort. Image 10 showcases personalized detail relating to the location where I watched the feeling disappear. Images 11 - 15 show my process for each finished piece. The collection of these works tells my story of a kid living a split life, finding the feeling of home, and watching it disappear-until now.
