My name is Ms. Jensen and this is my sixth year as a school counselor in Corvallis School District. On this site, you will find ways to contact me, what I do, about me, and more!
I graduated from Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis and went on to McMinnville to pursue my bachelor's degree at Linfield College. My Masters of Counseling-School Counseling and Masters of Counseling-Clinical Mental Health Counseling degrees are from Oregon State University-Cascades in Bend, Oregon. I am additionally licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate.
I love being outside, hiking, paddleboarding, baking, and reading!
At Adams, we are all part of the Adams Family. As our school song states, “It’s plain to see that they are Readers, Writers, Rock Stars, Explorers that have kind hearts, the Adams Family.” I sincerely hope that you and your student(s) will appreciate the warmth and acceptance of our school community. As your school counselor, I look forward to supporting the school's mission and nurturing, challenging, and respecting individuals as they grow and learn.
I visit each classroom many times throughout the school year and interact with every student. My classroom lessons typically include topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of the self and others, problem solving skills, and friendship skills. All classes will receive a counselor introduction, bullying prevention unit, and trusted adult lessons each Fall.
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-12 members and typically meet during times that work for their teacher.
Some students may benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges. This may look like going on a walk, playing a game, art, building, or whatever helps the student feel most safe and comfortable. School counseling is short-term, although I can support any family with accessing longer term counseling in our community.
The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Elementary school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe and respectful learning environment. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social/emotional skills in response to issues they face (American School Counseling Association, 2019).
