News and media literacy is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and create information across different media formats. It helps students assess the reliability of sources, recognize bias, and identify misinformation in a world where news spreads rapidly through social media, websites, and traditional outlets. The modern media landscape is constantly changing, with students encountering a mix of accurate reporting, opinion pieces, and false or misleading information. Teaching them how to navigate this environment is essential for helping them become informed, responsible citizens. By developing news and media literacy skills, students learn to think critically, make better decisions, and engage in meaningful discussions about the world around them. These skills are especially important for building civic awareness and fostering respectful conversations in todayβs polarized climate.

The News Literacy Projectβs District Fellowship Program is a three-year, $30,000 grant to support school districts that want to develop and implement district-wide news and media literacy education. Working with NLP, fellowship districts create their own plans to teach all students news literacy skills before they graduate high school, empowering students to be active participants in our democracy.

Create dynamic and reusable anchor charts, brainstorm ideas in the boardroom, and share ideas with the class using our dry-erase chart paper. Wipebook flipcharts have 20X the surface area of a similar-sized whiteboard. Even better, these surfaces detach, allowing you to create flexible workspaces anywhere.
