Hi! I am a PhD candidate at the Brooks School of Public Policy at Cornell University, currently pursuing a concentration in sociology and a minor in demography. I am also a graduate student affiliate at the Cornell Population Center (CPC), Center for the Study of Inequality (CSI), and Cornell Center for Social Sciences (CCSS). I received my MA in Economics in 2020 from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and BAs in Economics and Sociology in 2018 from Peking University.
I am broadly interested in family demography and health inequalities. Some overarching questions that motivate my research include: Who is going to care for older adults in an increasingly aging society? What are the life course patterns of care-giving and care-receiving? What types of social policy can better support older adults in need of care and their caregivers? I am trying to further the understanding of these questions from an interdisciplinary and international perspective.
News:
April 2024: I am going to present a paper (coauthored with Kelly Musick and Paula Fomby) and a poster (coauthored with Sarah Patterson) at the PAA 2024 in Columbus, Ohio. I am also going to chair a session "Caregiving and Healthcare Across the Life Course". Looking forward to meeting many old and new friends there!
November 2023: I am going to participate in the APPAM 2023 as the chair for the panel session "Politics and Migration Policy" and the discussant for the panel session "Disability and Access to Care". This will be my first time ever at the APPAM conference. I look forward to connecting with a lot of policy scholars and policy practitioners in Atlanta!
October 2023: I was honored that two projects I've been working on as a research assistant were on the program for the CAPS Annual Conference 2023 (virtual), as part of the "Conversation on Families and Aging" session.
September 2023: My first peer-reviewed publication titled "Geographic relocation in response to parents' health shocks: Who moves and how close?" (coauthored with Adriana Reyes) has just been published in the Journal of Marriage and Family (link to the paper).
August 2023: I successfully defended my dissertation proposal and officially became a PhD candidate!
