In April 2024, the New York Drought Summit brought together over fifty academics, educators, community members, and local, state, tribal, and federal representatives from a wide range of organizations to discuss the current state of drought monitoring, along with ways to enhance drought impact reporting and communication across the state.
Specific goals of the summit included:
increasing the awareness of state, regional, and federal drought-related tools and resources,
identifying ways to enhance drought impact reporting in New York, particularly through public engagement and citizen science efforts, and
strengthening the drought monitoring community through collaboration and relationship building.
The summit also provided an opportunity for student interns and partners to discuss drought-related education and outreach materials that can be utilized for public engagement.
This website was developed to distribute materials from the 1.5-day workshop, as well as drought education resources. You can learn more about the summit by exploring this website or reading this news article from the New York State Water Resources Institute.
