My research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics and finance, with a focus on sovereign risk, debt sustainability, and financial instability in emerging and developing economies. I study how climate change, economic complexity, and structural economic characteristics shape growth outcomes, fiscal vulnerability, and crisis dynamics, with particular emphasis on Latin America. More broadly, my work examines contagion, spillovers, and nonlinear dynamics in financial and real estate markets, with implications for macroeconomic and financial resilience.
My papers have been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as World Development, Energy Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, among others.
I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University and am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance, Information Systems, and Economics at the City University of New York - Lehman College. Prior to my current appointment, I held several senior positions at the Central Bank of Colombia, served on the faculty at Universidad de La Sabana, and worked as an external consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank.
