Who Are We:
Moot Court at Cornell University is a student-led team of undergraduates who participate in competitive constitutional advocacy. Every year, The American Moot Court Association (AMCA) releases a case with constitutional issues, and the team works to create and deliver an effective argument for both sides of the case. These cases have centered on gender equality, vaccination mandates, due process, the right to privacy and more. Students compete from the regional to national level, along with hundreds of other teams! Moot Court provides a unique opportunity to develop presentation, debate and teamwork skills, while providing a network of like-minded students and resources to develop the knowledge of future attorneys and advocates.
What We Do:
Our main focus is to compete in regional and national competitions hosted by AMCA annually. On top of the AMCA tournaments, our goal is to attend invitational competitions hosted by other universities and their law schools. In addition to competing, we teach valuable skills in legal research, argumentative legal advocacy, professionalism, and general applicable skills in any career space. Every member, no matter whether they join with competing in mind, gets to experience analyzing case law, drafting legal briefs and arguments, and presenting their legal arguments to a panel of mock justices. In the end, our members get to experience what it means to be appellate attorneys and advocates, applying the skills they learn to their future careers in law, advocacy, politics, business, and any other field.
Why Support Us:
In-person competitions require the team to fund our transportation, hotels, competition fees, and other resources necessary to compete. Supporting our team would increase the amount of competitions, and the amount of current members we can take to each competition. Additionally, the funding would be used towards other virtual competitions and hopefully host high school competitions once again. With the funding, we look forward to expanding the impact we leave on current members by allowing them to experience more within the appellate legal world, teamwork, and competitions as a whole.
