I have deeply engaged in several integrated research-extension projects that align with my research interests and include significant extension activities. For example, in the project " Sustainable Spotted Wing Drosophila Managment", I work closely with a variety of stakeholders (i.e., industry leaders, entomologist, biologists, and extension specialists) across multiple states, include New York, Oregon, Maine, North Carolina, California and Michigan, to identify best (cost-effective and sustainable) practices for pest management. This experience has strengthened my commitment to bridging the gap between research and practice through extension work.

In this tool, users can select/change input values, including (1) expected market price of blueberry; (2) rejection rate of blueberry (if infested by SWD); (3) farm-specific production characteristics; and (4) information about investing in a cool storage facility. Based on user’s input values, this tool shows the estimated economic outcomes with and without investing in a post-harvest cooling facility to control SWD infestation. The economic analyses include revenue estimation, production costs estimation, annual profits to generate cash flow, and the breakeven year if investing the cooling facility.

This interactive tool provides information on using monitoring-based management strategies to control infestation from Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) for organic blueberry production in Oregon. With this tool, you can evaluate five different SWD control strategies, including two calendar-based spraying strategies, and three monitoring-based spraying strategies: adult trapping guided spraying strategy, fruit sampling guided spraying strategy, and fruit sampling guided spraying and harvesting strategy.
