Applications
Applying to any school can be a very stressful and confusing process. This website is here to help you navigate your journey step-by-step.
Need transcripts sent to a school?
Most schools accept your transcript through CommonApp. If your school is requesting it a different way, please shoot me an email and we'll get it taken care of.
Don't know what to write your personal essay about?
The people reading your essay want to know about an experience that led you to become the person you are today. Think of a time that influenced you to pursue the kind of career you're considering.
Start the essay off with some kind of "hook." Sometimes, this looks like a narrative beginning ("When I was in 2nd grade, I had issues with the school bully.").
What do you want colleges to know about you that they cannot see on your transcript or resume?
Who to ask for letters of recommendation:
Teachers, coaches, employers -- anyone that has known you for a few years that can speak to your development as a young adult.
If you want them to talk about specific things, like your strengths or performance, feel free to include that in your request!
*Remember to ask for these letters ASAP, as it can take a few weeks to write this kind of letter. Additionally, many teachers will have a cut-off of how many letters of rec requests they receive. So if you know who you want, don't hesitate to ask!
What are some other first steps?
Look at schools you may be interested in! If they are local, consider visiting the campus.
Narrow down your list and sort them into "safe schools" vs. "reach schools." (This refers to your potential to get accepted based on school size, average freshman GPA, SAT scores, and general acceptance rates.)
Look at schools' course catalogs to see what kind of classes and majors they offer. Ms. Pekny is happy to look at those with you.
Research majors that interest you. Ms. Pekny can help you look at potential outcomes/careers related to that major.
