Saturday, 9/26 - OMEA COMPETITION at Cloverleaf. Performance time TBA.Â
Friday, 10/2 - Away Football @ Brecksville
Saturday, 10/3 - BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL at OSU Ohio Stadium. Performance Time 2:30 PM. Report time will be in the MORNING (sometime around 9:00). More info to come.
What time should I be at the game?
Student report times vary based on whether the game is home or away, how far away we have to travel, whether or not we need rehearsal before, etc. We always list report time on the website the weekend before the game. If the report time is listed as "to the field", then arrive in time to get to the practice field with your instrument by that time. If the report time is "to dress", then you will just arrive at report time and begin to dress and load the trailer.Â
What should I wear?
We'll be wearing uniforms to games, so winds and percussion will need LONG BLACK SOCKS, your BLACK MARCHING SHOES, LIGHTWEIGHT ATHLETIC SHORTS to wear under your uniform pants. We'll tell you each week whether to wear your SUMMER UNIFORM SHIRT or your RISE SHOW SHIRT underneath your uniform jacket. WIND players will wear their BLACK GLOVES.Â
Guard members will wear their guard uniforms, shoes, warmups if determined by instructors.
What about when it gets cold?
You can wear long underwear/compression pants and long-sleeved shirts under your uniform when it gets cold. We may add band raincoats to the uniform for extra warmth. Students may add a navy blue stocking cap or fleece headband under their hat IN THE STANDS; other colors are not acceptable. Students may NOT add things on top of the uniform (winter coats, scarves, blankets).
How should I wear my hair?
Hair needs to fit inside the shako (band hat) without flyaways. Hair that touches the shoulder needs to be pulled up into a tight bun. Students may need to use gel and bobby pins. THIS VIDEO TUTORIAL MAY HELP. STUDENTS SHOULD ARRIVE AT REPORT TIME WITH HAIR DONE.Â
What should I bring with me?
Your instrument, lyre and flip folder LOADED with your stand tunes and labeled with your NAME, money (cash and/or a phone for electronic payments) for concessions if you want, snacks if you want them, water.
How will I carry my personal belongings?
Before the first game, you will receive a navy drawstring bag with a reflective strip that has your last name on it. THIS IS THE ONLY BAG STUDENTS MAY USE TO CARRY PERSONAL BELONGINGS. $2 replacement cost per bag.
Will we take a bus to/from away games?
Yes! Students are expected to ride the bus to and from all away games. If for some reason a parent needs to take their child to or from a game, please provide WRITTEN notice at least 24 hours in advance to Mr. Foster or Mrs. Wade.
Does the band stay for the whole game?
Yes! We play the Alma Mater at the end of the game, and then head back to the high school. Students will be dismissed as soon as uniforms are checked in and equipment is put away.Â
When should my ride pick me up?
Sometimes our estimated dismissal time is wrong -- things happen! SO, students should text their parents when the HOME game is over, as we will dismiss about 15 minutes later. When we are AWAY, please text your parents when we are about 10 minutes from the school. PARENTS -- when you arrive to pick up your child, please don't park next to the fence; the buses can't get through. Please PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT.Â
If you have any other questions, let us know!
Marching band is, by its very nature, a group effort, and it is VERY difficult for the group to make progress when students are absent, especially for long periods of time. We work hard to keep MOST of the summer free for most of our students, so that we can have ALL our students present when we return.Â
However, we know that absences are inevitable. If you know you will be absent for a rehearsal or performance, please HAVE A PARENT/GUARDIAN fill out THIS ABSENCE FORM as early as possible. FILLING OUT THE ABSENCE FORM DOES NOT MEAN THE ABSENCE WILL BE EXCUSED; IT MERELY HELPS STAFF PLAN FOR REHEARSALS. For information about excused vs. unexcused absences, please read the instructions on the absence form.Â
SPECIAL NOTE: IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A FALL, SCHOOL-AFFILIATED SPORT, AND THERE IS A DIRECT CONFLICT BETWEEN A BAND ACTIVITY AND YOUR SPORT, PLEASE EMAIL MR. FOSTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HE WILL WORK WITH YOUR COACH TO ARRANGE A SUITABLE COMPROMISE.
The Music Boosters need YOUR help working in the concession stand at football, soccer, and volleyball games this Fall! Grab a friend and come meet other band parents while you help the Music Boosters raise funds for our music program. Use THIS SIGNUP GENIUS to sign up!
Any adult who would like to volunteer is welcome at any time, and high school students who need volunteer hours are also welcome to volunteer in the concession stand. Let's see if we can generate some section spirit, and parents can come and meet other parents from their children's section!Â
