Student Tips for Success

Managing Classwork

  • Daily - Check the Google Classroom stream of each class for announcements.

  • Daily - Click the "To Do" tab in Google Classroom to locate all assignments. This is where you can keep track of work completed, work to be done and potential feedback.

  • Find teacher comments - Find teacher comments on the View your work page or via Email.

  • Check for announcements - Check the Stream of each class for announcements and assignments.

  • Find your assignments - Click the Classwork tab (not Stream) then click View your work to see all assignments for the class with the due date and the status (assigned or missing). Keep track of work completed, work to be done, and potential feedback.

  • Always Turn In or Mark as Done when your assignment is complete. Either way, all icons on the Classwork page should be gray if you have completed them.

  • Updates to assignments--Note if assignments have been edited as noted on the assignment in the Stream.

  • Follow-up on assignments--After submitting an assignment, check back for teacher feedback. You may be asked to make corrections and you may need to Resubmit the assignment with these changes.

  • When in doubt, read the directions of any assignment one more time!

  • If you have questions about the assignment, contact the teacher. Ask your question in the private comment within the specific assignment.

  • Bookmark the "Classwork" page for easier access.

  • Turn on notifications! In Classroom, click the menu (three lines) on the top left, scroll to the bottom for settings. Within settings, select the notifications you want to receive and shut off the others.


Organizing Your School Days with Google Calendar

In Classroom, go to Classwork, then click “Google Calendar”

In Calendar

  • Click the day to create an appointment/meeting

  • Add the details (time and other information)

  • Make the meeting "recurring" if you are meeting regularly

  • For Zoom--copy the meeting information into the description for easy access

  • Click save

Additional features of Calendar

  • Under the “More options” setting, you can also add notifications, which allows you to email a reminder (minutes, hours, days, or weeks) prior to the event.

  • In the description section, you can add a description or links to the meeting and files to the appointment information.

  • You can view the calendar by day, week, or month; this option is found in the top right corner.


Upload a photo to an assignment with a Chromebook

  • Take a picture of your work with a Chromebook.

  • In Classroom, go to the assignment's "Your work" section on the top right.

  • Click on "+ Add or create" and select Google Drive to find your file/photo.

  • Select the file, then click add.

  • Click "Turn in" or "Mark as done" to submit it.

1) General Tips for Success

  • Daily--Check your Classroom and email for meeting dates and times. Add meetings to your agenda or calendar as a reminder.

  • Go to a quiet place with no noisy distractions before you join the meeting.

  • When you join a meeting, mute yourself at first. You can unmute yourself to talk to the teacher or class when needed.

  • Raise your hand on the video, if you have a question. Wait for the teacher to call on you.

  • Use the "Chat" feature for class discussions only.
