Head of Psychology

Psychology is a popular subject at Key Stage 4 and 5 at The Cooper School. We aim to provide students with a broad range of exciting learning topics and develop their skills within this exciting and fascinating subject. Our aim is to engage and motivate all of our students to develop a true understanding of what Psychology is and how we can apply it to our everyday lives.

At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE AQA Psychology. This specification focuses on 6 topics over two years. Students particularly enjoy the topics of personality and stereotypes. Students are assessed throughout the course of the 2 years with formal and informal assessments. They complete 2 examinations at the end of the 2 years – there is no coursework. This course prepares students remarkably well for what they cover at KS5, if they select Psychology as an option.

At A-Level we are currently running two different specifications. Our A2 students are using AQA A Psychology to complete their qualification, whereas current Year 12s are using AQA Psychology for their studies. Both specifications offer an insight to the world of Psychology and what it has to offer at A-Level and beyond. Many of our students choose to study Psychology at University. We have had students use Psychology to complete courses in Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Psychology and many other psychology related courses.
