Year 13

Colourful Carnival experience for Cooper School

This years’ Cultural Art trip visited Venice, Italy at the beginning of February 2017 for four days of unlimited inspiration.

Seventeen students began their magical trip with a visit to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum to the south of Venice. Contemporary and 20th Century works from Francis Bacon to Andy Warhol are on display in what was her home, on the Grand Canal.

Day two and we were off for our guided tour of Venice which included many secluded, secret and beautiful places followed by a visit to the Correr Museum which charts the history of Venice through its collection.

Saturday and we were off on a boat to the world famous Island of Murano to witness artisans creating wonderful glass sculptures. The same evening saw the launch of Venice Carnival, the perfect opportunity for those students who had chosen this as their exam topic, gaining first hand evidence to inform their work. The celebration took place in the Grand Canal with 1000’s visitors and local residents dressed for the occasion.

Since we returned the students haven’t stopped talking about the trip and Hannah Marley (Art) said “A very artistic place, every view, and every picture – all so inspiring. I am using images from this trip in my AS exam work. I thoroughly enjoyed the location and would definitely recommend a cultural trip to next year’s students, it really has helped my work both independently and at school”
