How will Google Classrooms help my child?

  • A key part of any lesson is the teacher input. This part of the lesson helps students to understand a topic, apply new knowledge and subsequently make progress.

  • The teacher input will be linked to the activities set on google classroom and will support your child in completing the tasks set.

  • An online lesson also allows the opportunity for a question and answer session which can address any misconceptions students may have

How can parents/carers help?

  • See the 'Using Google Classroom ' for help in getting set up and ready

  • Establish a routine where your child is prepared and ready 5-10 minutes in advance of an online lesson starting.

  • Discuss appropriate behaviour with your child. Our behaviour policy teaches students to be safe, respectful and responsible. This also applies to online lessons. Failure to adhere to this could result in your child being removed from the online learning.

  • Ensure that your child has an appropriate place to work whilst accessing online learning. Consider what can be viewed behind them and ensure that this is appropriate for others to see. Consider where your child will be when they access a live lesson, ideally a desk or table and a quiet uninterrupted space.

  • Make sure that all other adults and children within the household are aware of the days and times that any live lessons will be taking place. This is to ensure the online lesson can proceed without interruption

What can I expect in a live/online lesson?

  • Online lessons will vary in length from 15 minutes to 1 hour.

  • The teacher will take a register to record which students were in attendance.

  • During the online lesson your child ma choose to have their camera on/off and their microphone on mute.

  • If your child is asked a question by the teacher, they can unmute to answer the question.

  • There is also a live chat facility that your child can use to ask any questions that they may have.

  • The online lesson may be recorded,

  • Some teacher may use features such as 'hands up' to help ask and answer questions

What will happen after an online lesson?

  • Your child will be set task(s) via google classroom. This is the platform that their work has been set on through-out the lockdown period. The only difference is the task(s) will now be directly linked to the online lesson. This will make the activities more accessible for your child.

  • If the member of staff has any concerns about your child’s conduct whilst on the online lesson, they will contact you to discuss the issue.

  • Staff will also issue praise points for students who have worked particularly well during an online lesson
