Muzart Expectations

Be kind, Be safe and Do your best!

Be kind: work quietly, use supplies and instruments appropriately, share and clean up respectfully.

Be safe: use appropriate voice levels, walk when getting supplies/instruments and cleaning up, use all equipment carefully.

Do your best: participate in discussions and demonstrations, ask thoughtful questions, work respectfully, apply techniques and concepts introduced, show effort by using your time in Muzart class wisely.

At the beginning of the school year all of my students sign a poster of Muzart Expectations after we have a class discussion to acknowledge that they know what the expectations are in Muzart Class. We also take the time to discuss what it "looks like, sounds like and feels like" for each area of our rules.

In Muzart students are engaged in activities to help them work to their best individual potential, be creative problem solvers, develop critical thinking skills, communicate their ideas, collaborate and make connections to the world around them.

Should students choose to break a rule or expectation, they are reminded and redirected to focus on making better choices. If reminders are given more than twice for the same behavior, they will be instructed to "take a break" in our self regulation zone where there is a list of strategies to help them get back to learning. Sometimes students fill out a "think sheet. " The sheet is to help identify the choice that is causing disruption and to reflect on a better choice to encourage using time wisely. If the same behavior continues, an action plan is written with the student and parents will be notified to help support the student in making better choices. The action plan has a check in for the remainder of consecutive days for that rotation. Check in is with the student at the end of each class with communication home at the end of the week by email or phone call.
