English 9 and YA Fiction

Welcome to English with me, Ms. Holcombe! This is my fourth year at ConVal High School, and it is my 19th year of teaching.

This fall, I am teaching two sections of English 9 and Young Adult Fiction, which is an elective open to all grades.

I was born in Washington, DC, and I moved to Milford, NH, when I was eight years old. I graduated from Milford High School (go Spartans!) and The University of New Hampshire (go Wildcats!) with a B.A. and M.A.T. in English Teaching. I have taught in a bunch of places and schools over the last 18 years: Fairfax County, Virginia; Stavanger, Norway; Rome, Italy; Washington, DC. I have also been an ice cream scooper, an antique shop worker, and a nanny. I love to volunteer, and I've done everything from playing bingo at a nursing home to cleaning out flood-ravaged homes after Hurricane Katrina. I sponsor ConVal's Interact Club, which is a service club that connects students with volunteer opportunities. All students are welcome in Interact, and you can join us anytime!

In 2017, I had my daughter Louisa, and I moved back to New Hampshire to raise her near family. Since then, I've been teaching here at ConVal!
