Classroom Photos

Check here throughout the year to see what we are doing in second grade!

We read The Kissing Hand on the first day of school! Students created their own Chester Raccoon and identified how they felt on the first day of school.

Students created rainbows to learn more about each other. The cloud displays their name, and each color of the rainbow has a fact about themselves.

Students participated in "Bead Buddies" to learn more about the buddy at their table. Each student made their buddy a friendship bracelet to go home with.

Students started their gardening project with Cornucopia this week. Students were able to help weed the overgrown garden.

Save Fred!

Students tried the Save Fred STEAM challenge on Friday. Students had to work together to get Fred, their gummy worm, into his life vest after his boat capsized. Students could not touch Fred with their hands to help him. Using paper clips, students were able to strategize together and save Fred!

Dot Day!

Students celebrated International Dot Day on September 15th.

Cornucopia Week 2

Students searched the garden for bugs! They tallied how many of each insect they could find.

Students created Japanese Carp Kites as their STEAM project for the week. A student brought in this idea for their birthday!

Students have been learning about verbs! We listened to the story Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. After, we discussed the different things Pete did in his school shoes. At the end, students created their own Pete picture by inserting their own verb of something Pete could be doing.

Cornucopia Week 4

Students explored the different colors of our garden. They matched a paint chip with plants in the garden. The students then enjoyed a snack of fresh vegetables.

STEAM Buddies

Each week our 4th grade STEAM buddies come up and perform a new STEAM challenge with us. This is a new twist on reading buddies. This week, students completed the Penny Challenge with their buddies.

Friday Trash Clean-up

Each Friday in October, PES second graders clean-up the school grounds. With all of the outdoor learning and eating taking place this year, our school grounds can get dirty quickly! Students work in groups of three. One student holds the trash bag, another gathers the trash, and the last group member tallies the number of pieces their group picks up. This week second graders gathered 530 pieces of trash!

STEAM Buddies

Students completed the Paper Chain Challenge. Students had 20 minutes to build the longest paper chain with just one piece of construction paper.

Cornucopia Week 5

Students collected seeds throughout the garden and made seed bracelets. Students ended their lesson by cleaning out the garden beds and we even harvested a giant cucuzza squash!

Second grade trash clean-up, week 2. Students picked up 728 pieces of trash!

Cornucopia Week 6

Students planted garlic and finished harvesting the garden. Students then drew their favorite things that they got from the garden.
