Second grade is a busy year! From fun filled collaborations with the Harris Center to field trips to the Dodge Library! We cover a LOT of information in one short year. In math we focus on multi-digit addition and subtraction, place value, and fractions. New to second grade this year is Letterland! Letterland is an interactive phonics program that focuses on story based learning. In science and social studies, we cover a range of topics from seed dispersal to american symbols and citizenship!

Fall Cornucopia
Fall Cornucopia
This fall, the second grade participated in cornucopia. Every Thursday, we go out to the garden and learn about how the changing of seasons impacts the garden. We also explore bugs in the garden and harvesting! The program ran for the first 7 weeks of school!

Reading Choice
Reading Choice
LetterLand lessons and activities are done during our morning ELA block. Our afternoon ELA block is when we do reading groups and reading choice! When students are not in reading group or doing assigned reading, they get to make a choice of reading to someone, reading to self, listening to reading, word work, or sight words. Students are responsible for making their own choice and building their reading stamina one day at a time!

In second grade, we cover opinion writing (Fall), narrative writing (Winter), and informative writing (Spring). The second graders have started to work on organizing their thoughts with graphic organizers. From there we move to drafting, revising, and publishing!
