Science topics we are learning about during the first trimester :
Becoming a Scientist: Understand that scientific investigation begins with a question; look for patterns, make observations, and identify cause and effect relationships; use drawings, models, and words to communicate learning
Life Science - Plant and Animal Superpowers: explore how parts of plants and animals are essential for survival; make observations of parents and their offspring, determining how they are similar and how their behaviors help offspring survive
Physical Science - Light: observe that objects in darkness can only be seen when illuminated; investigate the effects of objects place in the path of a beam of light
Social Studies topics we are learning about during the first trimester :
Government and Civics: identify the role of different members of a community; demonstrate an understanding that communities have rules by following classroom rules and procedures; practice examples of democracy in action through classroom voting, showing acceptance, and learning about others; identify and describe symbols that represent our country; identify and describe the role of community helpers and jobs they do; develop an understanding of our role in government and how we can participate through voting; describe what a veteran is and why we have a special holiday to honor them
History: compare and contrast life in the past to life in the present; identify change over time; use a timeline to examine important events
