ENSEMBLES

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES


Concert Band -- is offered to students in grades 9-12 who enjoy playing a woodwind, brass, string bass or percussion instrument. Band has the option to meet daily or every other day at the 012 level. Repertoire includes all genres of music from marches to the pops and romantic to modern. Students in concert band will have some performances which include but are not limited to concerts, pep band and parades.

Marching Band -- is offered to dedicated students in grades 9-12 who plays a woodwind, brass, electric bass/guitar or percussion instrument. This class rehearses outside the school day and students receive credit at the 012 level. Students in Marching Band will have several performances which include but are not limited to concerts, parades, pep band and band shows. Students in Marching Band also participate in Concert Band.


Jazz Band -- is offered by audition to dedicated students in grades 9-12 who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, piano, electric bass/guitar, drum set and vibraphone. This class rehearses outside the regular school schedule and students receive credit at the 012 level. Jazz Band covers a variety of styles, including swing, funk, rock and Latin. Students in Jazz Band will have several performances, such as concerts, parades and pep band. Students in Jazz Band also participate in Concert Band.


Small Ensembles -- Small instrumental ensembles include percussion ensemble, brass quintet, saxophone quartet, flute and clarinet choirs. Small ensembles are open to all students who put in the time and commitment to rehearse during TASC or after school. All small ensembles rehearse independently. Rehearsals are led by students, as well as coached by the band director.


CHORAL ENSEMBLES

Chamber Choir -- This is an un-auditioned ensemble open to all students in grades 9-12 that already enjoys singing or wants to learn for the first time. This group meets every day during second block. This choir performs a diverse selection of repertoire on all school concerts and participates yearly in caroling and other community outreach performances each year. Students in Chamber Choir also participate in Concert Choir.


Concert Choir -- This is our largest choir at ConVal that is also un-auditioned and open to all students in grades 9-12 - those that already enjoys singing or those who have never sung before and want to learn how. This group meets every other day during second block and occasionally uses TASC time for group sectionals or peer tutoring. This choir performs a diverse selection of repertoire on all school concerts.

Select Choir -- This auditioned Choir of 20 - 25 dedicated students rehearses once a week after school. This choir performs more challenging repertoire that spans diverse time periods and styles. This choir performs at many special events, collaborates regularly with community ensembles and participates in community outreach projects throughout the year.


ConVal a Cappella - *NAME TBD* -- The premiere and largerst a cappella group at the high school. It is a combined group of students, open by audition to any student. This group rehearses once a week during TASC time and occasionally after school (only when needed). Because this ensemble meets during TASC time it requires good academic standing in all courses. The repertoire for this choir is mostly popular and jazz unaccompanied selections that feature teacher and student arrangements.

The Clef Hangers - girls a cappella group -- A smaller, auditioned ensemble open to any female student. This group rehearses once a week during TASC time (starting semester 2, 2022) and occasionally after school (only when needed). Because this ensemble meets during TASC time it requires good academic standing in all courses. The repertoire for this choir is mostly popular and jazz unaccompanied selections that feature teacher and student arrangements.

Moore in Tune - guys a cappella group -- A smaller, auditioned ensemble open to any male student. This group rehearses once a week during TASC time (starting semester 2, 2022) and occasionally after school (only when needed). Because this ensemble meets during TASC time it requires good academic standing in all courses. The repertoire for this choir is mostly popular and jazz unaccompanied selections that feature teacher and student arrangements.
