When we started The CCC Project in 2019, our goal was to develop stronger collaborative networks with the families, teachers and other school staff that we work with as speech-language therapists to promote students' functional, social and academic communication skills. We started with The CCC Model, a collaborative speech-language intervention model.
We have worked together as part of the ConVal School District's Speech-Language Therapy Team since 2015 and share the belief that by working as a team with school staff, teachers and families, we can better serve students, but putting this into practice has been a bit more challenging. We created The CCC Model as a way to simplify the process of helping students generalize their speech and language skills beyond the therapy room by working with the other adults with whom they spend most of their time. Additionally, we recognized the importance of sharing more about what exactly a speech-language therapist's role is so that the collaborative relationships could be more effective and that is when the podcast idea was born. At first we created informative videos and audio recordings, but noticed that the podcast approach was a more efficient way to reach our audience, given it's ease of use and accessibility. We also recognized the engaging element of the conversational podcast style. The CCC Project Podcast-Unscripted is our first attempt at providing those from outside the speech-language community with useful and relevant information through a conversational style podcast.
