A student pursuing this seal through the completion of a community service project must:
Complete a Community Service Project Proposal.
The proposal must be pre-approved by his/her principal, school counselor or designee.
The student must provide evidence of completion of the project to the school principal or designee.
Have volunteer opportunities pre-approved by the principal or designee with the submission of a Community Service Approval Form
What the student will do for community service and where.
A signature from someone at the organization agreeing to the community service hours.
A minimum of 5 hours at any one place of service unless prior approval given by the school principal.
Students pursuing this seal will track their own hours and obtain their own signatures on the attached “Community Service Log”.
Completed service hours form is due by date required by principal or principal designee.
Minimum Community Service Hours Requirement: 80 hours.
Students can begin obtaining hours their freshman year in order to meet community service hour requirements.
*Due to the potential of limited hours as a result of the COVID-19 health emergency, the community service hour requirements will be adjusted to the following;
Class of 2022...40 hours of community service
Class of 2023...60 hours of community service
Class of 2024 and beyond...80 hours of community service
Examples of community service activities which WILL COUNT toward the requirements are:
Participation in any service project conducted by a service organization such as Scouts, 4-H, Key club, church, ect.
Personal projects which benefit a member of the community or the community at large.
Assisting or supporting a person (not a relative) with household chores,
Visitation to a nursing home or other facility to perform services for a resident,
Volunteer work in a community institution (library, hospital, etc.),
Tutoring younger students on a regular basis, or
Similar projects designed to support/benefit others.
Examples of activities, which WILL NOT COUNT toward the requirement are:
Membership in service organization (without participating in service activities).
Participation in any activity for which an individual receives compensation.
Service to a relative.
Court-ordered community service or school-ordered service.
While it is impossible to list all examples, it is generally understood that community service recognition is for participation in the community for the express purpose of helping others.
