Tom Nobili, Isobel Stevenson and Andrew Volkert are close colleagues and friends. The three of us work on various aspects of instructional improvement: together, individually, and with other colleagues at Partners for Educational Leadership.
Tom taught in elementary school, became an instructional coach, and then a STEM coordinator, and now consults with many districts on creating a shared understanding of high quality instruction and on improving math curriculum and instruction in particular. Tom writes Core of the Matter, a Substack that takes a more in-depth look at the theory and research behind many of the classroom practices discussed in the book.
Isobel taught high school geography and special education, and then went into leadership, becoming a principal and then a chief academic officer before moving into her current job as a consultant. Along the way, Isobel has developed expertise in coaching, organizational learning, strategy, and improvement science. Isobel writes The Coaching Letter on Substack.
Andrew is an education researcher by training, focused particularly on change and improvement in complex systems. Integrating core methods from systems thinking, improvement science and program evaluation, Andrew's work supports schools and districts to developing systems that reliably deliver high-quality instruction and better learning outcomes for every student, every day.
All of us are united in our desire to see the best research on producing equitable outcomes for students applied at both classroom and systems levels, to produce learning organizations at multiple scales.
