My essential question is.. What do I want to do with my life?
I want to become a mechanic but how did we get to this point? What events caused me to be drawn at cars to make this my life long career in the automotive industry
As a kid I've always had a fascination with cars and machines in general. I always helped out at any second I could've and any outing relating to cars, I was there.
The first automotive internship I had. It had its ups and its downs but it was my first real experience with cars. I learnt the very basics about cars and the importances of maintenance.
Then I had an internship at Btech, a shop that works on semi-trucks where I learnt how to replace different components on diesel engines and diagnosing issues.
Then over the summer in 2024 I then started getting paid to work on cars and do oil changes, which I then got bored of quickly and school then came around. Later on I got my current job at Super Auto Centres.
I didn't know if I wanted to become a mechanic at first or not. I then met a good group of friends that had their own projects and in a way they got me more interested in cars than I already was, by letting me work on their cars and diagnosing issues. It then sealed the deal for me, I loved what I was doing and I wanted to become a mechanic.
I began to work on my own cars doing regular maintenance and experimenting with different modifications in which made me realize my internship experiences ultimately proved to me that I was a hands on learner and if I can't actually learn it first hand, it was extremely hard to look at a youtube video without actually learning it.
My final product is me figuring out what I want to do with my life. Through my high school experiences and internships, I've realized that I want be become a red seal mechanic one day, working at Rich's auto, Btech and working at lube shops it has made be realize that this would be the best path in life for me to take. With cars being a necessity in life and cars needing regular maintenance, working as a mechanic would also help the community.
