Joseph Schroeder is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Neuroscience Program at Connecticut College. The son of a biology professor at Gettysburg College, Joe majored in Psychology at Franklin and Marshall College where he met his partner of 29 years in Cognitive Psychology class. After working for Wyeth-Ayerst for a few years, Joe began his doctoral work under the direction of Jay Schneider at Thomas Jefferson University where he studied the neuropathology of Parkinson's Disease using the feline MPTP model earning his Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Pathology in 2001. He completed a post-doc at Temple University's Center for Substance Abuse Research with Ellen Unterwald where he focused on the neurophysiology and behavioral pharmacology of psychostimulants and opioids. He joined the faculty of Connecticut College in 2004 and has served as the Director of the Neuroscience program since 2013. Joe and his partner Ellen, a professor of clinical psychology at University of Rhode Island live in North Stonington with three cats and six chickens. They have three adult children.
