The Center for Housing Opportunity - Eastern CT works toward creating community-driven and data-informed solutions to create and protect affordable housing for all.
CHO is seeking student volunteers to work on researching specific topics to prepare for a Fall 2026 exhibit under a Mellon Foundation Grant to Connecticut College, where CHO-EC is a partner. Students can also create area Mean Income tables for each community in eastern Connecticut to demonstrate specific jobs and incomes in a town to change the narrative around who is most impacted by the housing crisis.

The Covenant Shelter of New London provides emergency shelter to families and individuals over 40 years old. They are seeking volunteers to assist with:

Volunteers can have a combination of day and evening hours available, up to 8:00 pm.

The New London Community Meal Center serves freshly prepared and nutritious meals to anyone in need. Lunch and dinner are served Monday through Friday. Volunteers are welcome and needed in a variety of capacities.

Expressiones provides the community with quality artistic programming and inspires the community to immerse themselves in the music, art, and customs of our multicultural population. Students have the opportunity to immerse and enrich themselves in the Expressiones programs while also providing their fresh perspectives and energy.

The Drop-In Learning Center provides before and after-school care for New London students. Volunteer hours are:
Monday-Friday
7:00 am - 9:00 am
2:45 pm - 5:00 pm
Volunteers assist in the program by helping with homework, supporting participants who play with instruments, playing games with small groups, working with the children on art projects, and reading with or to the children/youth. There are opportunities to plan workshops and activities.

A bodega-style food pantry that provides food assistance to the New London community. Food to the People is a partnership between FRESH New London, Ledge Light Health District, and L&M Hospital.
Food distribution every Friday, from 9:00-12:00 and 3:00-7:00, at 74 Garfield Ave.

FRESH New London is a food justice non-profit located in New London, CT. Our mission is to build momentum for food system change through local agriculture, community, and youth, in order to dismantle systemic oppression and ensure everyone has access to food with dignity.
FRESH is seeking students to work on the following projects:

Orientation required. Depending on the position, a criminal background may be required. There is a $150 fee for the background check. If the student successfully completes 25 hours of volunteer work, you will be eligible for reimbursement.

Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut works with donors, volunteers, and partners to help families in Eastern CT build and purchase safe and affordable homes.

High Hopes Therapeutic Riding "fosters a community where horse and human interactions improve lives", by providing equine assisted services to people with a variety of diagnoses and life circumstances.
Volunteer opportunities are available to interested students, with many different schedule options.

Hygienic Art Park mission is to "inspire, enrich, and instill a sense of community by promoting a free public art forum...for the city of New London and surrounding areas." The Hygienic is open Thursday-Sunday.

Lawrence & Memorial Hospital serves New London and Southeastern Connecticut. The hospital provides patient care to medical, surgical, pediatric, rehab, psychiatric, and obstetrical patients.
L&M is seeking volunteers who are interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. Please come to the Holleran Center to receive the application information.

The New London County Historical Society (NLCHS) is a university special collection and archive. The organization is looking for students for the following roles:
Researcher and Podcast Production - Duties involve researching artifacts, helping to manage our collections, and creating content for a podcast that will share "bottom-up" stories of the American Revolution. The series is being produced to commemorate the anniversary beginning next year.
Marketing - duties include developing social media posts, marketing collateral design, and website and event updates.

The New London Homeless Hospitality Center provides shelter and supplies to adults facing homelessness in southeastern Connecticut.
The NLHCC is looking for volunteers for their help center between 9:00-12:00 and 12:00-3:00, Monday-Friday. Volunteers must be able to stay the full three hour shift.
There are some special projects available to interested students.

New London Landmarks preserves and promotes “New London's historic character through education, advocacy, and the rehabilitation of historic structures.” Hours are flexible.
Students would assist with working with files and archives, writing narratives of historic houses, creating an index of historic houses, and digitizing files. There is also the opportunity to assist with graphic design, social media, translation into Spanish, and some website design - but not a requirement.

New London Parks & Recreation has volunteer opportunities this fall with the afterschool hub at the New London Community Center.

The Shiloh New London Family Life Center's mission is to meet the needs of the community through creative programs across generational, socio-economic, and cultural lines.
Childworks Preschool - Shiloh is seeking student volunteers to help with their preschool program, which meets daily from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Food Pantry - Distribute non-perishable food, diapers, household cleaning products, pet supplies, and other essential items to residents in need. The pantry is open every Saturday, and volunteers assist from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The Shiloh New London Family Life Center is a part of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
The Southeastern Connecticut Community Land Trust (SE CT CLT) is a "nonprofit "organization that holds land for the development and stewardship of permanently affordable housing, land for food production, green space, and facilities for community organizations. SE CT CLT works to support access to affordable home ownership, advance community development, promote social justice, and further neighborhood revitalization across Southeastern Connecticut."
Students assist in telling the organization's story of their work and their community connections through social media videos.
The organization onboarding includes introducing students to the organization, partners and policies.

addresses food insecurity in New London and Southeastern Connecticut. The Food Center is seeking volunteers for their food warehouse to do the following:
Setting up refrigerated and frozen food pallets
Setting up for the regular volunteers and breaking down after
Cleaning the room before and after the volunteers leave
Moving pallets of dry product throughout the warehouse
Working with the volunteer coordinator to accomplish different projects
Volunteers needed on Tuesday 8:30am-3:30pm; Wednesday 8:30am to 1:00pm; Thursday 8:30am to 1:00pm
