Join us for a raw, 45-minute documentary chronicling the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through uncut, never-before-seen footage. Stripped of music, titles, and credits, the film offers an intimate look at the man behind the movement. Presented by Jeffrey Fletcher, founder of the Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum, in collaboration with the Black Student Union and Connecticut College.

What Happens When History is Told by People Who Lived It?

Join us as The Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum comes to Connecticut College from Feb. 1–12, 2026. This two-week installation uses curated artifacts, archival journalism, and film to examine how Black stories are told and who is trusted to tell them. Visitors are invited to slow down, look closely, and reflect on representation, memory, and voice. We hope you’ll also attend the opening reception on Monday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. in the Shain Library Chu Room, which will feature a documentary screening and remarks by Jeffrey Fletcher.

This powerful film follows Tamara Lanier’s lawsuit challenging Harvard University’s control over pictures of her ancestors. The screening aims to spark vital debates about reparations, archival power, and the complex question of who truly controls historical narratives and why.
Eva's Promise

While the world is familiar with Anne Frank’s story, Eva’s Promise introduces the life of Heinz Geiringer through the paintings and poetry he created while in hiding during World War II. Join us on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 3:00 p.m. in Oliva Hall, Cummings Art Center, for a screening of the film and a Q&A session with director Steve McCarthy and co-producer Susan Kerner '71. This event, which follows the efforts of Heinz’s sister, Eva Geiringer Schloss, to share his legacy, is free to attend with donations appreciated. It is co-presented by Connecticut College, The Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut, and the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in conjunction with the pop-up exhibition Art in the Holocaust.

In her talk, "From These Roots: My Fight with Harvard: Reclamation, Repatriation, and Reparations," Lanier will discuss her ongoing journey to reclaim her family's legacy and her legal battle over the rights to her ancestors' images.
