Let the monthly awards begin! But before we get into the festivities we talked to the woman who runs the show, Ms. Luker. She is the one who initiates the nominating process by sending out an email asking for staff members to nominate students from the different grade levels. Once she has a list, she then creates a Google form and shares it with the teachers who have three days to cast their vote. The student with the most votes in each grade level wins the honor of student of the month. “A student can be nominated month after month, but once they win for that calendar year they can't win again, until the next school year. I believe Skye Smith and Ralph Times won last year. It's important to spread out the recognition,” says Mrs. Luker. September of the Month junior class winner, Kayla Rhone says she’s motivated to do well in school, “I work hard in school because I want to be someone. I want to help people and make a difference. I want to provide for my family and be successful.”

There is also a teacher of the month, but the selection process is a little different, as the administration team nominates this person. Ms. Ray is this year’s first teacher recipient and she has an important message for students, “One thing I have worked on this school year has been my technology skills. As we all know, virtual learning has been an upward battle for students and teachers alike. I have been trying really hard to balance virtual learning and being mom, while also trying to make relationships with my students through a computer. It is definitely a daunting task, trying to get to know someone through a computer. LOL.” She added, “One thing that I want my students to take away from my class is that they are able to understand and learn the material I am teaching. That they CAN learn if they apply themselves and put in the work. I want them to know that they WILL be SUCCESSFUL.”
