VACHANA 2020: MASKED CITIES
The objective of the postgraduate national seminar was to interact and engage with students of English discipline from varied universities across India and deliberate on the theme of Masked Cities, which explores postcolonial cities that are always in the process of becoming. The objective was also to examine the massive challenges faced by cities, evaluating the potential benefits, costs and unintended consequences of integrating a heterogenous mix of promising technologies with mobility services. This seminar is also relevant in the present context as it happened in the midst of massive student protests taking place all over the country, in opposition to the National Register of Citizens and the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019. What we are reminded once again by these protests is that it has always been students who have taken on the mantle of visioning, demanding, and shaping a more just, progressive, and inclusive world.
