The LC will be hosting a Read-a-Thon
The Read-a-Thon hopes to rekindle a love of reading and raise funds for the 2026 Young Adult Author Symposium (YAAS) in December!
We will spend the Read-a-thon reading (of course!), discussing books from the Massachusetts Teen Choice Book Awards list (MTCBA), and playing games and getting zoom visits from authors. At the end of the event, students will vote for their favorite MTCBA nominees.
Students must be in good academic standing and must use this form to apply to attend. Scan here to apply:
FAQs:
-What if I have class? - If your teacher says it is ok and completes the provided permission slip, then you can come during class time.
-Do I have to stay the entire time? 8am-8pm? - No! Come for an hour, then leave, then come back. It’s up to you.
-What if I have practice or rehearsal? -No problem! You can leave for your activity, then come back after!
-Can I just hang out and not read? -No. You can do that anywhere else. This is just for reading.
-Will we only read, or is there more to it? -We'll also get zoom visits from some of the authors of the MTCBA books and have a chance to talk about books over snacks!
-Can I do homework or read a book for class? -No. This is your time to read what YOU choose!
-Can I read an ebook or listen to an audiobook? -Yes! They all count as reading.
-Can I read anything I want? -Yes! As long as it’s a book.
-Wait, what about the MTCBA books? Do I have to read one? -At least one! Either before or during the read-a-thon so you can vote. BUt you can also read other books
-Can I bring a pillow or giant stuffie to lounge on? -Yes! If you need to, you can drop them with a librarian at the start of the day.
-Is this open to CCHS staff as well? -You betcha! Staff don't need to apply. You can attend in person or zoom in and read along from your home.
-Will you have food? - Yes! Snacks and dinner.
-What is the fundraising for? - Money fundraised during the read-a-thon will go towards the Young Adult Author Symposium (YAAS) event held on Sat Dec 5th at CCHS.
-Do I have to fundraise to attend? - No!
-How will the fundraising work? - Ask for sponsors to support your reading by the amount of pages or amount of minutes you read. We will give you all you need for fundraising.
-What if I can't get a sponsor, but I want to? -No worries! Ask a librarian. We'll sponsor you.
