Hands on with Deep Learning* and the Internet of Things*

The world has billions of sensors and internet-connected devices that generate large quantities of data every second. In this hands-on workshop, you will cover the basics of Deep Learning and the internet of things(IoT) and walk through fun, interactive exercises for getting started with maker projects in this space. You will learn how to use a webcam and a neural network to recognize images, aggregate data, and run real-time IoT analytics. No prior experience with IoT and Deep Learning is required!

The Power of You: Tips for Thriving in Tech - and Getting Paid to Do It

According to recent research from Hired, 63% of the time, men in technology are offered higher salaries than women for the same role at the same company. But women in technology can leverage confident, data-driven salary negotiation tactics to help close this gap. This workshop is an interactive session designed help you to find your dream job, negotiate your salary, and thrive in the tech space. Along with sharing her experience as a woman in leadership position in the world of technology, Sarah Reynolds, VP of Marketing at Salary.com, will share tips for discussing pay during the interview process, finding accurate pay data online, and leveraging data to build a strong case for a higher starting salary.

Mission Critical Systems

Whether you are planning a trip to Mars and learning how to operate a space ship or simply want to withdraw cash from an ATM machine, you are dealing with a mission-critical system. A mission-critical system's failure to execute correctly will cause a catastrophic event in the former case or annoyance in the latter, but both systems have to be designed with ability to recover from any malfunction. This workshop will teach you how to approach the task of designing a mission-critical system, what criteria are important, and how to make such a system execute flawlessly. There are no prerequisites!

How to Start a Company and Fundraise From the Best VC's

The company Polis sells software and data to groups that go door-to-door. In 3 years, the company has raised $4.5M and hired 25+ people to support their vision of changing the world. In this workshop, you will chat with Kendall Tucker, founder of Polis, about how she was able to work with her team to build a company out of nothing. Along the way, she will help you use your own creative and critical thinking skills to guide you through understanding how you can build sustainable technology and businesses.

Lie Detection and Credibility Assessment

Learn about lie detection and credibility assessment techniques - what types of questions are often asked and what types of data are collected and used to make assessments about whether or not someone is deceptive. We will also do a demonstration with a polygraph machine.

Hidden Figures Viewing

You will be able to relax in this workshop as you watch a film with countless amounts of nominations and film awards, Hidden Figures. Hidden Figures is a movie based on the phenomenal yet untold story of three brilliant African-American women– Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. Working at NASA, the three women played essential roles behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn. Directed by Theodore Melfi, the film stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson.

In this workshop, you will be given a brief introduction to one of the many coding languages– Java. The workshop leader will help guide you toward grasping a substantial understanding of the basic concepts and formatting behind coding. Absolutely no knowledge of coding is required!

Do I have to attend a workshop in all three times allotted for them?

No. As the insight these women will share with you in these workshops will heighten your learning experience, we highly encourage you to attend three workshops, but it is not obligatory.
