Many high school students at Comsewogue High School attended the college fair on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 from 8:00-9:00 am. It had over 75 colleges including military branches like the Air Force, Marines, and Navy. With summer coming up, juniors stress about the futures they wish to pursue. Participating in the college fair makes the process less stressful and can help students decide what type of colleges they want to attend.
Only some students will have the same interests in career paths and will have different plans for the future. For example, Angelica Genao says “I plan on going to college and being a business major.” With her going to the college fair, she was able to show the colleges that have business majors. She also says, “ I think that it was insightful because it helped me see different colleges I wouldn’t normally see outside of school.” She was able to see what colleges she was interested in.
Another student, Naomi Diaz, wishes to be a dermatologist in the future. The different colleges students go to can help them follow the career they wish to hold in the future. The college fair can help with the process of seeing the type of college they want to apply to. They can see what colleges offer and find their best interest. Naomi Diaz says, “I think it’s helpful to students because you get to see and experience different colleges.”
Seniors already applied to colleges, but there was a college fair in the fall that made it easier for them as well. It’s important to stay motivated and not feel discouraged during the process of college application because it can be a hard and stressful time while also juggling school work.
As the high school years go on, students discover their strengths and interests. It’s important to always work towards your goals. Attending the college fair can be eye-opening to people who don’t know what they're interested in. For example, a junior student, Jake Epstein says, “I’m undecided so I don’t know what I want to do yet.” Although he doesn’t know what career to pursue, the college fair can help him see what type of college he wants to attend.

DECISION DAY
By Sophia Di Domenico
Nearing May 1 comes National Decision Day, where stressed seniors decide where they’re going after High School. Whether it be a gap year, military, Suffolk Community College, no college, SUNY College, or a Public/Private university there will be a decision.
This year students ran into many problems due to FASFA’s errors, therefore many colleges extended their deadlines. The government decided to update FAFSA, making it easier for students, however, all it did was make it more stressful. Due to these FAFSA delays, many students can’t make a decision, forcing many to pick Suffolk Community College.
Many students also committed to colleges for sports such as Lauren Freudenberg who is going to SUNY Cortland for Field Hockey, Kaeden West who is going to Wingate University for Football, and Aidan Bayer going to Saint Joseph University for Soccer. Aidan says, “I’m so excited to meet my teammates.” Our Valedictorian and Salutatorian, Jackie Antelo and Alex Kosak are going to Cornell University and Rice University.
In the end, many students made their decisions, and many students are deciding by May 15. Everyone is very excited to make this big step after High School, whatever their decision is.

It is the year 2024 and graduation is approaching for this year’s seniors. This graduation will be extra memorable because this is the last generation of warriors to graduate. The turf will be covered in a sea of blue and gold on June 27th, and all eyes will be on our seniors. In preparation for this wonderful day, seniors are completing the last assignments for their classes and getting ready for senior week. Seniors had many things to say about their feelings towards graduation and reflected upon their absolute favorite moments throughout their school career.
Although graduation is a sad end to an era, many students had a positive input as to what they are feeling in regards to graduation approaching. Ariana Lupo, Mikayla Riley, Kaylin Sanchez, Taylor Ladani, Aidan Bayer, and Joey Squitieri all agree, “I feel like all of our seniors are ready to move on and start college.” Although a little nervous about what the future holds, at some point all good things must come to an end, and now is the time. Nonetheless, reflecting upon the past is part of moving on.
Our seniors have created some wonderful memories throughout the years, and were more than kind to share some of them! Taylor shares, “One of my favorite things is elementary school and the field trips… I still remember those.” Kaylin adds, “I enjoy spirit week and for me personally, I always loved hanging out with Mr. Taheny in his office… especially after APs!” These are just a few favorite moments; All seniors have made very special memories and will remember them throughout their lives. In contrast to this, some students mentioned things they would change about high school.
If given the opportunity, students would make different choices and hope for different rules. Mikayla describes, “I regret taking some of the classes I took…” and in contrast, Ariana portrays, "I regret losing classes and not taking them.”
Aside from changing classes, another senior shares his view of what he would change throughout his high school experience. Aidan expresses, “I would change the no headphone rule because it was a big part of having a luxury in high school.” Although only being enforced in their last year of high school, our seniors feel certain things are expected privileges when entering high school.
Another student had one final thing to add to the argument of different choices students would make if given the chance. Joey demonstrates, “I’d probably study a little bit more 'cause I probably could’ve done a little bit better.” These are just some views on how high school could have been better. Generally speaking, no matter how good something is, it could always be better. Now that seniors know what they would have done differently, it is time they pave their own path.
Seniors talk about their future plans regarding college and majors. Ariana brings up, “I am going to Farmingdale to study business…”, Mikayla explains, “I am going to Michigan State to major in Elementary Education…”, Aidan describes, “I’m going to play soccer at college…” and Joey tells us, “I am going to college for engineering.”
No matter what our seniors choose to do, Comsewogue will always be a part of their lives and who they are. Speaking of future plans, the end of the year has reached us and senior activities are coming up. Taylor and Kaylin agree that senior spirit week, prom, and graduation are the things that excite them the most now that the year is ending.
No matter the past or present or what the future holds, Graduation is a time to rejoice and reflect on all the great things our seniors have achieved. It allows our seniors to expand their interests into careers and make new memories. The friendships we have made may not last forever, but one thing will always remain: Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior; Congratulations to all the Seniors and all their dedication and hard work throughout these past 4 years.

Students of Comsewogue High School have created many videos throughout the past year publishing articles about current and past issues that need to be addressed. while working with the video production class it has taught them how to publicly speak. From fun events to issues in the community, these students have provided information to the public. This class all started with Ms. O'Hara Going above and beyond to create a class students would find joy in. While working with Mrs. Verdisco's Video Production class they created a passion for students to find a way to speak their minds and truth.
“This class has taught me how to speak publicly and overcome the obstacle of getting behind a camera”, said Riley Candreva. Although it is not easy to get behind the camera, the students get to publish videos that are presented on the TVs around the school and publish them on YouTube.
“I have learned a lot about what journalism is really about and working with the video production has been a pleasure”, said Marissa Piombo. Over the course of time these students have Created a compassion and profound love into being represented as more than “students of Journalism”. Marissa Piombo has made four videos throughout the past few months covering Tennis, JoJo Siwa drama, etc!
Ms. O'Hara has made a huge impact on the Comsewogue community, continuing her love and passion for writing. Adding a new addition to the elective options has been a great decision. “Mrs. Verdisco and I came up with this idea a couple of years ago to give the kids an idea of creating an online newspaper.”
Overall, Journalism isn’t just about conducting interviews, it’s all about learning new techniques and understanding the responsibilities it takes to become a great journalist.
